Sree Thrishilery Mahadeva Temple

The Thrissilery Shiva Temple, located in Wayanad, Kerala, is a renowned pilgrimage destination and one of the oldest temples in the state. Devoted to Lord Shiva, this temple is acclaimed for its distinctive architecture, intricate carvings, and peaceful ambiance.

Many visitors often combine a visit to the Lord Vishnu Temple at Thirunelli, located 19 km away, with a trip to the Thrissilery Temple. Some devotees believe that ancestral rituals at Thirunelli are not complete without also visiting the Thrissilery Temple, as it is believed that the head and body of Lord Shiva are located there, while his feet are at Thirunelli.

The temple complex features a small shrine of Jala Durga, situated within a water tank fed by the Papanashini River. According to legend, the shrine was constructed by Lord Parasurama, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and the water tank has never run dry. The temple’s opening hours are from 5:30 AM to 12 PM and 5:30 PM to 8 PM. The dress code requires pants to be worn without a shirt.
