Agasthyakoodam

Agasthyakoodam is also famous as Agastya Mala & Agasthyamalai. This is the second-highest peak in Kerala near the Tamilnadu border. Therefore, reaching this peak is not everyone’s cup of tea.

One can reach Agasthyakoodam Peak only after 2 days of trekking. Agasthyakoodam is strict when it comes to trekking. A trekking pass needs to be obtained first, which is issued by the Kerala Forest Department from the district office at Trivandrum. Then trekking starts from a place named Bonacaud which is around 50 km from Thiruvananthapuram. After Bonacaud, one cannot take vehicles atop. Caution is to be exercised because wild animals like elephants and wild bulls often roam around here.

This place is a bird watcher’s paradise, many exotic birds are recorded here. Over 2000 species of flora and fauna including lichens, orchids, mosses, and ferns are recorded here.
