Vizhinjam Lighthouse (Kovalam Lighthouse)

The Vizhinjam Lighthouse, also referred to as the Trivandrum Lighthouse, is a cylindrical tower standing at a height of 36 meters. Situated near Kovalam beach in Kerala, it was inaugurated on June 30, 1972. The lighthouse is distinguished by its red and white paint markings, metal halide lamps, and a direct drive mechanism. It features a spiral staircase consisting of approximately 144 steps to access the top, as well as an elevator for convenience.

The lighthouse provides panoramic views of the sea and the adjacent beach, now popularly referred to as Lighthouse Beach. The lighthouse is open to the public from Tuesday to Sunday, with operating hours from 10 AM to 12:30 PM and 2 PM to 5 PM. Please note that the lighthouse is closed on Mondays.
