Ponmudi

is a famous hill station in Kerala. It is located in the Peringamala grama panchayath of Trivandrum District. The name Ponmudi translates to “golden hill” in Malayalam. This name is derived probably because this place turns golden in color during sunrise and sunset.

Ponmudi has been a popular tourist attraction for generations. Even the royal families used to come here for leisure, local lores say. Since then this place has been an attraction for both local as well as far-away tourists alike.
This hilltop is situated 1,100 meters above sea level. Therefore it is a little bit hard to reach here. The road to Ponmudi is a very narrow but natural road. There are a total of 22 hairpin curves that one needs to travel to reach Ponmudi. Choosing trekking to reach Ponmudi is a great option as it will be a good experience.

If you are lucky, then you are going to be covered by mist and fog right from the beginning of your travel. Or else, you will still be greeted by the cool climate during your travel. Entry is allowed up to 4 pm only, but one can stay there for 6 pm. This place offers scenic aerial views of the surrounding valleys and offers excellent opportunities for photography. Don’t miss the various viewpoints here. Also be sure to enjoy the mountain flowers, exotic butterflies, and small rivulets.
