Banasura Hill

Banasura Hill, standing at 6,800 ft (2,073 m) tall, is a prominent mountain in the Western Ghats of Wayanad, Kerala, India. It is the second-highest peak in the region, situated between the Nilgiris and the Himalayas, following only Chembra Peak in height. The hill derives its name from Banasura, a legendary figure from Indian mythology. According to the myth, Banasura, a demon king, engaged in a fierce battle with Lord Krishna, resulting in the formation of the hill.

Banasura Hill is a well-known spot for hiking enthusiasts and those who appreciate nature. The Banasura Hill Trek is a moderate 18 km round-trip journey that typically lasts around 9 hours and reaches a peak altitude of 6,660 ft. This trek is not suitable for beginners and is most enjoyable between September and January. The starting point of the trek is near the Forest Office, where a guide is available for the hike, at a cost of Rs. 500 per person. The trek will lead you through lush hills, rocky landscapes, dense forests, and stunning vistas.
