Kerala Kalamandalam is often called simply ‘Kalamandalam’ and is a perfect university to learn traditional performing arts like Mohiniyattam, Kutiyattam, Thullal, Nangiarkoothu, Kathakali, Panchavadyam, Mridangam, and Karnatic music.
Students from both India and abroad come to this university to pursue their artistic passions. This university is a picnic spot for many. Along with the excellence in training performing arts, this place is well known for the unique and mesmerizing ambiance that recreates the traditional Kerala. The curriculum also comprises of vocal and instrumental music, make-up, and costuming.
The Kalamandalam is open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM and is closed on Sunday. Tours are available every day from 9 AM to 1 PM, with a maximum of 30 people allowed in three batches of 10.
Kerala Kalamandalam is a world-famous public university that is a major center for learning Indian Performing Arts. It was founded at Cheruthuruthy in Thrissur, by renowned poet Vallathol Narayana Menon and Manakkulam Mukunda Raja. It has been a deemed-to-be university since 2007.
