The Thiruvalathur Randu Moorthy Temple in Palakkad, Kerala is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. Situated on the banks of the Sokanasini River, this temple is renowned for its impressive architecture and intricate sculptures. The temple operates from 5:30 AM to 9:30 AM on weekends and from 5 PM to 8 PM on weekdays.
The temple is dedicated to two main deities, Annapoorneswari and Mahishasura Mardini, representing different forms of the Mother Goddess. It also houses idols of Lord Ganesha, Goddess Parvati, and Sri Ayappan. Devotees believe that the idols are self-manifested, giving the temple significant religious importance for Hindus. The temple is situated within a large area and is enclosed by imposing stone walls with four main entrances facing the cardinal directions.
The temple also includes a traditional temple theater known as a Koothambalam and a large percussion instrument called a Mizhavu. Some believe that the temple is ancient and was intended to be constructed by deities in a single night, but they abandoned the project unfinished to avoid being seen by humans. Others claim that the sculptures are of great antiquity and were unearthed by Parsurama.
