Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary

The Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary is situated in the Vallikunnu Grama Panchayat of Malappuram, Kerala, India. Covering an area of 3 square kilometers, it consists of islands where the Kadalundipuzha River meets the Arabian Sea. The sanctuary hill rises to approximately 200 meters above sea level, providing panoramic views of the river and the sea.

The sanctuary is a habitat for approximately 100 species of native birds and 60 species of migratory birds. During the months of November to April, visitors can observe migratory birds such as whimbrels, herons, sandpipers, gulls, terns, sand plovers, red and greenshanks, and turnstones. Additionally, the sanctuary supports a diverse ecosystem including fish, crabs, and mussels.

Visitors have the opportunity to take a boat ride on the Kadalundi River to admire the natural beauty and observe the birds. Boating comes with its own risks and is priced at INR 1500 per trip. The sanctuary is open from Monday to Thursday from 7 AM to 5 PM, Friday from 7 AM to 12 PM and 2 PM to 5 PM, and Saturday to Sunday from 7 AM to 5 PM.
