The Ponnani Juma Masjid, also known as Ponnani Valiya Jumath Palli, is a mosque located in Ponnani, Malappuram district, Kerala. This mosque holds significant historical importance and was formerly a hub for Islamic education within Kerala’s Muslim community. Constructed in 1510 by Muslim spiritual leader Zainudhin Makhdum, the mosque showcases traditional Kerala architecture. Interestingly, the architect of the mosque was a Hindu artisan named Ashaari, who later converted to Islam and took on the name Ashaari Thangal.The tombs of Makhdum and Ashaari can be found within the mosque.
