The temple is thought to have been constructed in the 14th century by the Zamorins, the ancient rulers of Kozhikode. It is one of the 108 Durga temples established by Parasurama, a legendary sage and incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Renowned for its distinctive architecture, the temple showcases traditional Kerala-style elements such as a roof covered in copper, wooden sculptures, and a grand gopuram.
