The temple, also referred to as “Sahyamala Kshetram” and the “Kashi of the South,” is recognized as one of the 108 Abhimana Kshethrams in the Vaishnavate tradition. It is a prominent pilgrimage site for devotees from all over South India. Renowned for its traditional Kerala architectural style, the temple is believed to have been constructed by the Chera king Kulasekharan.
The Thirunelli Temple, situated in the Wayanad district of Kerala, India, is an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Nestled in the tranquil village of Thirunelli, at the foothills of the Brahmagiri Hills, the temple stands at an elevation of approximately 900 meters. Operating hours for visitors are from 5:30 AM to 12:30 PM and from 5:30 PM to 8 PM daily.
The temple features a stone aqueduct that brings water from the nearby forests, with channels supported by pillars adorned with intricate murals. Additionally, there is a sacred pond known as “panchatheertham” located on the south side of the temple, which is believed to be connected to five different rivers. The pond is surrounded by numerous art carvings and sculptures, adding to the spiritual ambiance of the site.
