Kavvayi is a cluster of small islands located in the Kavvayi Backwaters, which is a vast network of waterways in the Kannur district of Kerala, India. These backwaters extend from Kavvayi to Neeleshwar in the Kasargod district and are nourished by five rivers. The islands are adorned with coconut plantations, mangrove forests, and verdant vegetation. The backwaters and mangrove forests serve as habitats for a variety of marine and bird species, including rare and endangered migratory birds.
The largest island in the group is Valiyaparamba, which covers an area of 6.23 square miles and is home to a fishing and agricultural community. The backwaters near Valiyaparamba are known as Valiyaparamba Back Waters.
The scenic Kavvayi Backwaters can be most effectively experienced through activities like kayaking or country boat cruises, particularly during the early morning and late evening hours.
