The Kammadam Sacred Grove Wildlife Sanctuary is a 54.7-acre forest located in Bheemandy Village, Vellarikundu Taluk, Kasaragod district, Kerala. It is considered the largest sacred grove in Kerala and is closely associated with the Bhagavathi temple. The sanctuary is home to a diverse range of wildlife, including foxes, snakes, bats, monitor lizards, civets, jungle cats, elephants, leopards, tigers, deer, and monkeys. Various bird species, butterflies, and a variety of plants such as evergreen forests, medicinal plants, and shrubs can also be found in the sanctuary.
The sanctuary is considered sacred by the local community, who have protected it for generations due to its cultural and religious importance. It’s located around 25 km eastwards of Kanhagad town. Sacred groves are trees that hold significant social, cultural, medicinal, or religious importance.
