Ranipuram, formerly known as “Madathumala,” is a haven for hikers and nature enthusiasts, drawn by the evergreen shola trees, wildflowers, moors, and expansive meadows. It is situated at a height of 750 meters above sea level, approximately 85 miles from Kasaragod town, and 43 km from Kanhangad. The entire area is suggested to be included in the Ranipuram Wildlife Sanctuary, which will merge with the Karnataka Talakaveri Wildlife Sanctuary. Because of the abundance of lemongrass, an antioxidant, in the meadows here, it is thought that the wind has therapeutic qualities. The hill station, which has hills all around it, is referred to as the “Queen of Grasslands” with affection.
