Kuttichira Jumaath Masjid

The Mishkal Mosque, also known as Kuttichira Palli, is a four-story wooden mosque located in Kozhikode, Kerala. Constructed in the 14th century by the Arab merchant Nakhooda Mishkal, it holds the distinction of being the oldest mosque in Kozhikode. Renowned for its traditional Kerala architecture, the mosque stands out for its unique design that does not feature cupolas or minarets, resembling more of a temple-like structure.

The mosque boasts several distinctive features, such as an entrance paved with Italian tiles, 24 intricately engraved wooden pillars, 47 elaborately carved doors, a prayer hall with a capacity for 300-400 people, and a large tank known as the Kuttichira tank. Originally standing at five stories tall, the mosque was unfortunately damaged by fire during a Portuguese attack in 1510. It was reconstructed in 1578/79, now standing at four stories. Some charred sections of the original mosque still exist to this day.
