Canoli Canal

The Canoli Canal, also referred to as the Conolly Canal or E K Canal, is a human-made waterway in Kozhikode, Kerala, India that was constructed in 1848. Stretching 11.4 km in length, the canal links the Korapuzha River in the north with the Kallai River in the south. It forms a part of the Western Coastal Canal (WCC) network and National Waterway 3, spanning approximately 170 km in total. Visitors have the opportunity to experience the canal by boat.

The canal was initially constructed to facilitate the transportation of goods from the Malabar hinterlands to Kallayi Port, and it served as a bustling trading hub until 1950. Divided into 11 segments, the canal varies in width from 6 to 20 meters, with a water depth of 0.5 to 2 meters during the monsoon season. While most of the canal’s banks are lined with dimension stone, there are some areas where sections have collapsed.
