Chandragiri Fort

Chandragiri Fort, a 17th-century fort situated in the Kasaragod district of Kerala, India, rests on the banks of the Payaswini River, where it meets the Arabian Sea. Positioned 150 feet (46 meters) above sea level, the fort spans approximately seven acres. Currently, it lies in a state of ruin.

The fort and palace are managed by the Archaeological Survey of India. While the palace is accessible to the public, the fort remains closed. The palace showcases Indo-Saracenic architecture from the Vijayanagar period, built with stone, brick, and lime mortar. The fort is a pleasant place for a leisurely stroll with family or friends, as it is not typically crowded.

Shivappa Nayak of Bedanoor constructed the fort as part of a series of forts built under his rule. The fort has a rich history, as it was situated along the Chandragiri River, which served as the border between the influential kingdoms of Kolathunadu and Thulunadu.
